Regras para formar "Comparativos de Igualdade, de Superioridade e de Inferioridade" e os "Superlativos"

Em Português, quando comparamos uma pessoa com outra , o adjetivo não se modifica.
Dizemos que algo ou alguém, ''é mais do que'', ''é menos do que'', ''é tão quanto'', ''não é tão quanto'', e como ''superlativo'', que é ''o mais'', ''o maior'', ''o menos'' ou ''o menor'' entre todos os outros!

Vamos entender primeiro em Português!

Ex.: "Bonita''.

Usamos "tão quanto" no "Comparativo de Igualdade"
  Mary é ''tão bonita quanto'' Sally! 

Usamos  "mais do que", no "Comparativo de Superioridade"
   Mary é ''mais bonita do que'' Sally!

Usamos "menos do que" no "Comparativo de Inferioridade"
   Sally é ''menos bonita do que'' Mary!

Usamos "O mais", no "Superlativo".
    Mary é ''a mais bonita'' da escola!


                                                       Em Inglês não funciona assim!


Há diferenças no caso de adjetivos de uma só sílaba, e com os de mais de uma sílaba!
Haverá diferentes escritas, dependendo da grafia do adjetivo!

Vamos às regras!

Se o adjetivo tiver "apenas uma sílaba", os ''comparativos'' e os ''superlativos'' serão formados assim:

Para o Comparativo de superioridade:
Acrescenta-se ''er'' no final do nome, mais a conjunção ''than'', que significa ''do que".

Ex.:
Alto= Tall
Mais alto do que= Taller than

   Paul é mais alto do que John.
   Paul is  taller than John. 


Para o Superlativo:
Acrescenta-se "est" no final do nome, precedido de "the"
Ex.:
O mais alto= The tallest

   Paul é o rapaz mais alto da rua.
   Paul is the tallest boy in the street.


                                       
As palavras que tem seus nomes terminados em "Consoante", "Vogal", "Consoante" (CVC),
têm a última letra "dobrada".

 Exs.:                 "big"      "fat"        "hot"       "sad"       

 
Comparativo:  "bigger than",  "fatter than",    "hotter than",  "sadder than",

 
Superlativo:    "the biggest"  "the fattest"   "the hottest"  "the saddest"

Exemplos:

Comparativo:  Uma baleia é maior do que um tubarão. =
                       A whale is bigger than a shark.

Superlativo:    Júpiter é  o maior planeta do sistema solar. =
                        Jupiter is the biggest planet in the Solar System.

Comparativo:  Tom é gordo, mas Michael é mais gordo do que Tom.= 
                        Tom is fat, but Michael is fatter than Tom.    

Superlativo:    Michael é o garoto mais gordo da escola. =  
                        Michael is the fattest boy in the school.

Comparativo:  Este verão está mais quente do que o do ano passado. = 
                        This summer is hotter than last year.
  
 Superlativo:   Este verão é o mais quente dos últimos 10 anos.=
                       This summer is the hottest of the last 10 years.

    Os adjetivos de apenas uma ou mais sílabas, tem formas diferentes nas suas terminações,
 quando terminam com a letra "y" e com a letra "e".
 .
                                         Vamos começar pelo mais irregular de todos! 

Os adjetivos terminados com "y", irão receber ''er'' ou ''est'', dependendo da letra que venha ''antes'' dele!

Geralmente alguns cursos de Inglês, falam que:
no "Comparativo, troca-se o "y" por "i" e acrescenta-se o "er".
E no "Superlativo", troca-se o "y" por "i" e acrescenta-se o "est"

Claro que tá certo, mas...

Gente, se a letra antes do "y" for ''consoante'':

Troque o ''y'' por ''ier" no Comparativo, e
                      por ''iest'' no Superlativo.

                                                     

Ex.:
Ugly = Feio

Uglier than = Mais feio do que
The ugliest = O mais feio. (ou a mais feia)



Se vir uma vogal antes do  ''y'', apenas acrescente o ''er'', no "Comparativo"

                                                                               ou ''est'', no Superlativo.

Ex.:
Gray = cinza

Grayer than = mais cinzento do que...
The grayest = O mais cinzento.

Ex.:

Angry = irritado

Angrier than = mais irritado do que...

The angriest = O mais irritado.

 

                                               Adjetivos que terminam com a letra "e"


Quando um adjetivo termina com a letra "e":

Acrescenta-se apenas um "r" ao final do nome, para formar o "Comparativo", e 
um "st" para formar o "Superlativo".

Ex.:  

Brave = corajoso

braver than = mais corajoso do que
The bravest = O mais corajoso

Tom é mais corajoso do que Michael = Tom is braver than Michael.
Tom é o homem mais corajoso da cidade = Tom is the bravest man in the city.

                      

Adjetivos com mais de uma sílaba.

Nesse caso, a grafia do adjetivo não sofrerá nenhuma transformação!

  No Comparativo de Superioridade, o adjetivo é escrito entre ''more'', e ''than".

                                                            ''more (adjetivo) than''!

  Ex.: 
    
    Um carro é mais caro do que uma bicicleta. =
    A car is more expensive than a bike.

    Mary é mais bonita do que Sally.=
    Mary is more beautiful than Sally.

    A saúde é mais importante do que a riqueza. =  
    Health is more important than wealth.

        
  No Comparativo de Inferioridade, é escrito entre ''less'' e "than"!

                                                        "less (adjetivo) than"

Ex.:
        "Ela é menos atraente do que sua amiga.
        "She is less attractive than her friend.


No "Superlativo", os adjetivos serão escritos depois de "The most" = "O mais"

 Ex.:
       Sally é a menina mais inteligente da minha sala de aula.
       Sally is the most intelligent girl of my classroom.

Para o Comparativo de Igualdade, o adjetivo também não sofrerá mudanças no nome.

Será escrito entre "as (adjetivo) as" no caso de comparação de igualdade, e
será escrito entre "not (adjetivo) as" no caso de comparação de inferioridade.




"Igualdade":
"as....as", quando a comparação for "positiva"

Ex.:
            "Aquela menina é tão adorável quanto sua irmã." (a dela) 
            "That girl is as lovely as her sister."


"Inferioridade"
"not so...as", ou mesmo "not as...as" quando a comparação for "negativa"

"not so (adjetivo) as..."  
"not as (adjetivo) as...
Ex.:
             "Ele não é tão gentil quanto seu irmão". (o dele)
             "He is not so  gentle as his brother." 
                                      ou
              "He is not as gentle as his brother."  (As duas formas são aceitas)

 Também existem os Adjetivos que têm os seus Comparativos e Superlativos, formados por
palavras diferentes. São os adjetivos irregulares. 
                             
Adjetivo:         good  =  bom          
Comparativo:  better than = melhor do que
Superlativo:    the best = o melhor 

Adjetivo:         bad  = mau                         
Comparativo:  worse than = pior do que
Superlativo:     the worst = o pior

Adjetivo:         far =  distante, afastado                         
Comparativo:   farther ou further than = mais distante do que
Superlativo:     the farthest, furthest =  o mais distante

Adjetivo:          old = velho
Comparativo:   older ou elder than = mais velho do que
Superlativo:     the oldest, eldest=  o mais velho

Adjetivo:          little = pouco
Comparativo:   less than = menos que
Superlativo:      the least = o mínimo


Frases com essas palavras:

Comparativo:

A Sally cozinha melhor do que eu. = Sally cooks better than me.                          
O tempo hoje está pior do que ontem. = The weather today is worse than yesterday.
O Japão é mais longe do que a Argentina. = Japan is farther than Argentina.
Ele é mais velho do que meu filho. = He is elder than my son.                                 
Aquela casa é menos cara do que a outra. = That house is less expensive than the other.


Superlativo:

Mary é a melhor aluna da turma. = Mary is the best student in class.
Tom é o pior aluno da turma. = Tom is the worst student in class. 
Vamos ver quem consegue correr o mais longe? = Let's see who can run the farthest?
Paul é o mais velho dos três. = Paul is the eldest of the three.
O João é a pessoa que tem mais experiência. = John is the one who has the most experience.
Isto é o mínimo que eu posso fazer por você. = This is the least I can do for you.
